The Baron and Luthien Myth

Tolkien really did keep his personal life separate from his social life. He was maybe a little more reticent about introducing her eventually when he let people know that he was engaged. Edith expressed frustration with not having a social group of her own, not even able to share her interest with other people. She didn't have the career that Tolkien had. And I think that I've heard several places that she was a little frustrated with finding community.
