Pinchon is talking about his own fiction, an the way that he constructs his ideas about rond technology. He creates this ino sense of a resistance toith diresistence, two machines and to technology. Andd we've got man, and what is happening to him in these pinchonian universes when he first comes into contact with machines and technology. But what happens when he finally submits? I think it changes am over the course of pensions, a career. Eare being transformed by machinery, but all are already having been transformed or conditioned in some way by thes mechanisms of control.
