What Happened to South African Wine?
There was a perception with South African wine that there were very few exports actually in the 20th century. About half of the declared wine produced in South Africa was going overseas. The home market is still really important and Australian and South African wines started to fade out of favor in Britain in the 1960s and 1970s. It's nothing compared to exports of clothing or certain kinds of fruit like oranges.
