When your kids get smartphones, make it very clear that they have exclusive use of them. Set the expectation early on that they have some sort of like overarching rights to do whatever they want in private on their phone. At age appropriate levels, you also make sure that they're aware of dangers out there. You should be careful about certain things because this is a smart thing to do.
