The Drug Store and the Soda Fountain

By the 18 eighties, with the invention of the typewriter and the need for secretarial work, this brought women into the work force in very large numbers. So a couple pre existing sorts of businesses that already existed in these districts needed to fill in the void. These places would be called luncheonets or fountain luncheonetes. While these places already had counter tops, so many began serving light meals with very modest menus.
