The Man in His Last Moments of Life
Jacques-Louis David painted the scene of Jean-Paul Marat's death in 1793, four years after the start of the French Revolution. The neoclassical style was a direct contrast to the Rococo art favored by the French royals at the time. Painters working in this style made use of the idealized forms of classical art - think ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.
