Deep vision is a programme that aims to find out more about pandemics. The project was shut down just before the current one started, but there are still blueprints on line for future research. But it's not clear if we will ever be able to use this kind of information in order to protect ourselves from such threats.
In this episode of the podcast, Rob Reid and Kevin Esvelt discuss USAID’s new “Deep VZN” program, which aims to discover new pandemic-grade viruses and publish their genomes to the world. Esvelt estimates that there are currently around 30,000 people who could then easily build them.
