In the late 19th and early 20th century, I don't think it's quite as Zia suggests. This is when a sort of spurious race science came into the equation,. Yes, I suppose... You point out that the racial hierarchy wasn't heavily present in earlier centuries. Well, I suppose this is because I tend to think that ideas are often put to the service of power. Scientific racism represents a change from the colour prejudice and attitudes to colour hierarchy that undoubtedly existed before.
