Roxanne Jones: I love that you brought it down to the level of an individual worker. The Sisyphia nature of that task, right? Because like once a transcontinental railroad is finished, you can see it as a whole. But for an individual worker, it must have just been a hopeless task almost. And there's also a way of thinking about that moment of sexual intimacy as one of kind of return to China. They saw themselves as sojourners because they were going back in America and didn't want to leave.
