I was eight years old by that point and I still voted to keep sailing because it was very hard for me to do anything else. My father overruled us and said you know I'm the captain you think this is a democracy but it's not a democracy it's a benevolent dictatorship and we're keeping sailing. So from that moment on I was effectively there against my will with no way to escape, she says.
