How to Increase Access to Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for All Women
One in five women experience depression, depressive and anxiety symptoms when they're pregnant and postpartum. Only one in 20 individuals have access to minimally adequate treatments for depression across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. One of the studies that you led was this parenting intervention study in Uganda. Can you briefly describe the approach and how addressing parenting issues actually reduced rates of depression among these women? Sure. We were working with a local NGO called Plan, and Plan has offices all over the world, but also in local sites. So we're working in an area called Lyra, Uganda, which is 350 kilometers north of the capital city. so very, very rural area where there were high rates
