The Wedding at Cana

Jesus says it is not his hour to work the wedding at cana. Could mary have been working in some kind of official capacity, or volunteering as one? If so, would jesus have been there to help his mam or to volunteer himself? i don't see any basis for saying that they were here in an official capacity. I think they were there just as guests,. which is what john's language would suggest. There's a very clear distinction in the text between jesus and the role of the servants.
