At the time of kathi amas murder, local authorities and officials were already aware of the embezzlement scandal going down at the fire department. The former fire partment executive board treasurer was fired after he admitted to police in an august two thousand and two interview that he had embezzled at least three thousand 500 dollars from the fire department's account. David nameth, cathy's husband, was charged in the embezzlelement case, and later david was fired for this situation. Ultimately, david was facing seven criminal charges, some of them felonies.
