The Lord's Wrath Will Come Upon Them
There is a sort of collaborative hypocrisy at work here. The people and their rulers build an unsound society, then the prophets come along to put the words of god as whitewash over it. In scripture, our attention is occasionally drawn to the fact that people want to believe false prophecies. Even while they know that they are false, they will persist in believing them.
