The Piano Keys - C Major or C Major?

C major gets preferential treatment by being the only major key that just the white piano keys play. The pianos become uncomfortably big if you don't squash the notes up in some way. How much of what sounds good to us is just familiarity versus dictates of math? So my wife loves hard cormetal music, crazy music from bands with names like five fingered death punch.
