The Importance of Understanding the US Security Alliance Structure

The US security alliance structure is seen as inherently extremely valuable to the region. Most of our friends in Southeast Asia really, really do rely on the US-Japan, US-Australia alliance. It's not inherently bad for us that Japan or Australia or Korea have a lot more freedom of action. But I'm skeptical of the idea that strategic thinkers at least in Southeast Asia will look at US alliances and want them weaker.
