The difference between eBPF and a kernel module is a process called verification. As you load an eBPF program into the kernel, this verifier examines all the possible code parts. It's not going to crash. Memory access is safe. That kind of thing. So you can have a lot of confidence that your e BPF program is, well, it doesn't come with the risks that a kernel module potentially comes with it.
