The History of the Balkans
Balkans is an Orthodox region unlike most of Central and Eastern Europe, which is Christian. In this sense, Central Europe is somewhat closer to the Western political culture. On the other hand, also the Balkans was lengthy under Ottoman Empire. So, that makes a difference when you speak about, you know, it's not all the political, it's also cultural. I reported from Romania straight after the revolution there, and I'm going to give you my very impressionistic account.
