Hoffman: ADHD is a highly genetic disorder that you can demonstrate, I like to say, neurologic wiring issues. Just because somebody wasn't diagnosed earlier doesn't mean they don't have ADHD; there are many reasons people don't get diagnosed earlier. He says the stigma and the fact that people didn't believe in ADHD or they thought it was just you're just being, you know, a boy or difficult. But he warns clinicians not to be game by patients coming in giving them the story in order to get much needed stimulant medications.
