I saw them at the Ann Arbor Armory covering stones and pretty things and Motown songs. Wayne Kramer tells me they asked me to drum for them at one point. And I didn't. They were already tight and good in a similar way to the members in Grand Funk Railroad, Mark Foner and those guys. Also were a good cover type band originally. How did they switch into being the MC5 we know? I think that had a lot to do with John. Andrew Oldham sort of told the Rolling Stones, "You need to write songs"
