How I Grew Up in the Navy and Went to Vietnam
When you joined the Navy in 1965, did you know you were going to Vietnam? Was the war big enough yet? My dad never talked about it much, but I watched the movies of the Marines attacking beachheads and getting mowed down. And then I saw the bridge of the river, quieting the guns and never on. And I figured, yeah, if you're going to fight, that's the kind of outfit you want to fight.
