In the book, they'd put stuff in italics if they had a sign for it. If it's not italicized, then they said it out loud. And obviously they don't sign every single word,. just to make that clear, but they do speak it. But then when cocoa talks it's only signs. And so a lot of extra words that make it into complete sentence ore missing because you don't do that in the sign language that cocoa uses. So barba says, ok, can you tell me how gorillas talk? And coco beats her chest - which doesn't necessarily sound like a great answer. The trainers think that she the cocoa is trying to show
