Hassan II was trying to cleanse Morocco of its radical anti-colonialist elements. King and his entourage concocted a plot on the basis of one or two good bits of evidence. Plot uncovered, I use sort of scare quotes around that word in the 60s,. led to the arrest of hundreds of people. And it was the first significant security clamp down under the young king's regime.
