Is China Competing With China in Africa?

When Chingkong was in Africa he stressed that China is not in competition with the West over Africa but of course President Biden has suggested otherwise. Could Africa actually benefit from competition between China and the West in some ways or does this competition only bring harm to the continent? There are areas important areas where the US can compete with China in Africa but I would say the BRI isn't one of them.
