As an oncponor, you are responsible for withholding your own taxes and sending it to the government. So because you make a hundred k, does not mean that you have a hundred to spend. Necessarily, you need to kind of get some ball park of what your tax obligations are going to be. It's very difficult and painful to catch up on that if you find out after the facts.
