The Education of Suneno and Her Sisters

Suneno's family was not representative of the broader Japanese peasantry. They were pretty well off, but they were also certainly not aristocrats or samurai. The children of Emun and Haruma by contrast received a far less, throw-going education. But for the most part, Suneno was nowhere near as educated as Lady Nijo, or O'i-machimachiko were.
