Practical Incense Burning
The humble mosquito coil is an incense stick that can take up to 12 hours to burn through. The candle clock makes use of the gradual rate of change in a burning candle. And then there are also oil lamp clocks, which only go back a couple of centuries. We see these in the traditions of the east, west, and middle east with a council in Chinese writing going back as far as sixth century CE.
