Is There a Monopoly on Virtue in the Insurance Industry?

The insurance industry is cast as the villain and the profit maker in a lot of this. And it's obvious to me at least, that there's some good cause for that. Are they as intentionally untransparent as many people assume them to be? So i don't think the's anybody with a monopoly on virtue or a monopoly on vice in the system....
