The History of Paragraphs
When did we start talking about paragraphs as the text between those breaks? Well, in that article i mentioned by richard hughes gibson, gibson points to examples in texts in in french and english. Around the thirteenth or fourteenth century people started making reference to paragraphs as sub sections of text. But it seems to be roughly around the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century that the more modern definition of a paragraph became dominant. So by around that time, you got people talking about paragraphs. And they are the paragraphs that we have to day. It's a chunk of text between line breaks.
