The Importance of Causality
If there is something like Stephen Hawking's causality protection principle, then it will be impossible to change the past. On the other hand, I hold a philosophical and scientific position known as eternalism which holds that the past, the present and the future are all real from an a temporal perspective outside of time. That doesn't mean that things within time are fixed in such a way that no freedom is involved. So I would say we can have free will, and we can then make different choices that will affect future outcomes.
