The Origins of Jung's Archetypes

The idea about inherent patterns has been called by different names for a long time in history. Jung made the analogy that it's kind of like the pattern of a crystal, that crystals will emerge with a recognizable form. And I think that's what you're referencing to Joseph with trees and puppies and people. There are recognizable patterns for things. Just going back to when Jung first started using this term, in 1909 he had an important dream that we'll talk about in a minute.
