Tchaikovsky's the Chorale
Tchaikovsky wanted to find a way to connect the second and third movements without a pause. The violin enters with a bang as well, resembling a bowl waiting to be let out of his pen. Slowly the music ascends until Tchaikovsky finds his way to D major. This section is actually quite difficult for the conductor because he or she has to hold on to the tension which can easily be lost in the repetitive scales.
