Introduction
Cameroon has only known one president during the last 40 years, Paul Bier. For 30 of those years, John Frundi was his only credible challenger until his death in June at age 81. Since 2016, a violent conflict has been raging in Cameroon's northwest as separatist groups fight for their own state. More than 6,000 people have died during that conflict. But while he consistently spoke about this marginalization, JohnFrundi always opposed the idea of a separatist Anglophone state.
