The Relationship Between Biblical Imagery and Reality
When people have visions of these guardian boundary figures who stand at the boundary of heaven and earth, they're called by a variety of names. Seraphim is the interesting one because it only occurs once in the Hebrew Bible. Isaiah's depiction in particular, he uses the word set off, which is the Hebrew word for snake. When God sent snakes to fight the Israelites in the wilderness, they're set off. The pserothim Yeah. And dude, this is a whole motif in Genesis, the disguised deceiver.
