Parents really get upset that their kids are not being too cursive when, I mean, I probably only use cursive maybe once every couple years besides my signature. You can see the same thing in places where there are language reforms. There have been multiple attempts to move China to a more phonetic writing system but there's 3000 years of inertia for using Chinese characters. So with that long history and this big, you know, ancient writing system is such a and ingrained part of the identity of the people.
