When you're learning by listening, you need to think carefully about sort of the mindset of the presenter. The speaker is thinking very carefully about structuring things so that it's really easy for you to follow. When there's a hierarchical structure, you are expected to make connections between what you're hearing now and what you heard say 10 minutes ago. These are both reasons that you need to outsmart your brain.
