The Importance of Objective Criteria in Negotiation

The idea of an objective criteria is it needs to be independent of the will of either side. And this approach lets you approach negotiation as a search for fair criteria that we can all agree to. The whole idea is you're not bullying me. I'm not bullying you. We are going to find some fair, impartial third party standard or document or best practice that's going to help us drive that decision. One thing that we want to emphasize is you should never yield to pressure.
