The Importance of Recognizing the Meaning of Texts

The way empire works about the text is to insist that texts have only one meaning. So it took me a long time to see that texts have many meanings. And I basically learned that from the rabbis. The spirit of God is essentially emancipatory. Our work in the biblical text is to read the text in emancipatory ways, I think.
