On the surface, how familiar does this sound? A stark lord coming down from the north to be hand of the king. One of his main motivations being to figure out what happened with regards to a certain poisoning. Ned and Krigen are pretty different in a lot of ways, but they're both not exactly what you would call politically savvy or at least politically like in their element.
