What Happened to the English Officers?
Many of the nobles would soon discover that, far from getting rich for switching sides, they would actually find themselves in deep trouble. High ranking courtly officials called stallers and shire reeves sheriffs, were also submitting to the norman invaders. There is only one group that appears to have gained from collaboration with thenorman invaders, the clergy. While the church did acquire an increasing amount of stolen property, the english clergy running those institutions only enjoyed that enrichment for a handful of years before the norman machine began to churn once again.
