In 1968, the U.S. was trying to get oil from Prudhoe Bay north of Alaska. Most of that bay is underwater and frozen a lot of the year so there's no way to get it out. But early in the 1970s they start wanting to build an oil pipeline across this whole area. And when they were building the pipeline, one thing after another went wrong.
