Ep. 28 - Arif Ahmed on David Hume’s Disturbing Conception of the Self

The Ralston College Podcast

CHAPTER

Is There No Underlying Reality?

It does seem to me it's pushing pretty hard to say that there need be no underlying fact. What hume is saying is that actually the basis of underlying facts is much more exigious than you thought. So, yes, disturbing. But can i point to an underlying fact which is getting wrong? That's a separate question. I even feel that now, you know, in so much of the discourse that iam exposed to ind as much more da emphasis on society and groups, particular kinds of groups within that society, than there is with thinking about people as individuals.
