Robot With the Shotgun and Oakland Police Department

The Oakland Police Department is not adding armed remote vehicles to the department. The device is attached to a robot and designed to use standard commercial blank shotgun shells, although special modified loads have been mentioned previously when they have discussed this. OPD did take part in an ad hoc committee discussion with the Oakland police commission and community members to explore all possible uses for the vehicle. But after further discussions with the chief and executive team, the department decided no longer want to explore that particular option.
