What's the Story of the Railroad?

The development of the railroad is also a very interesting kind of lockstep movement between capitalist prospectors and the US government. Both halves of the United States wanted their own railroad, right? The South wanted the railroad to go through the South and be a slave railroad that's going to pull California into the Union on a pro-slavery basis. And the North wants to do the opposite. They want a Northern route that’s going to secure California for the Union. It turns out that bet pays off really good with the establishment of the Transcontinental as a tool in the Civil War.
