Why Can't We Predict Earth's Place?
At its most basic, seismic hazard is the danger to human populations as a result of earthquakes. For an earthquake, we have no clear precastory signals, not that we've observed systematically today. It's very hard for us to see anything happening before that time. One area seismology is really helping though, and this is in places like Japan.
