The Origins of Ordeals in China

There's not a lot of evidence of more deals being undertaken in China. There was certainly judicial torture from the very early stage that was getting, you know, again, direct confession. The whole idea was that if the person was at all guilty, they would actually just be terrified into confessing. So the purpose was more fear as much as actual practice.
