"I don't know if he was writing something to become a part of the canon of Scripture or he from the seat of beloved identity for one whom Jesus loved had to tell it from his perspective," says Pope Francis. "It's not even considered a synoptic gospel. It's a love letter from one who buried his head in the breast of the Christ who said I have to tell them who he is."
