The Fall of France in 1940 Makes the Situation More Complex
Coastal Command's main task was to carry out reconnaissance around the North Sea and home waters. The fall of France in 1940 meant that Krigsmarine, the German navy, could take over the French western ports on the Atlantic. U-boat Wolfpack system where they hunted in groups of six and seven would inflict a tremendous losses. This totally foxed the admiralty who thought Aztec wasn't half as effective as they thought it would be. So there was a great political battle that went on in November and December 1940 and eventually compromised was reached whereby the Admirals were given operational control for coastal command.
