The Importance of Sharing Self Defined Experiences
Researchers interviewed 179 members of revolutionary battalions katiba. Half the sample were front line fighters, and half provided logistical support. They found that those who suffered more shared disphoria on the front line to be more fused with unit. But this preference was not as strong among providers of logistical support. It looks like a key driver of extreme pro group action is a state of identity fusion resulting from shared disphoric experience.
