The Defence and Madrid
During the First World War in Britain, when people would go to the cinema, they would usually be shown a propaganda clip of how the war was going over it on the western front. And certain organisations take the growing popularity of the cinema and they use it to the benefit of those Spanish aid and relief for Spain. So one of the really successful films that is made and shown across Britain is a film called The Defence and Madrid which two years ago at the International Brigade Memorial Trust Conference. It's a silent film showing day to day life in Madrid whilst it is under siege in 1936. Some of the imagery is absolutely fascinating but really quite emotive.
